Mexico Looks to Light Up Estadio Guadalajara Against Korea

Even before the ball starts rolling, the Pearl of the West has already made it clear that it's ready to play its part as the Mexican National Team's 12th man this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Estadio Guadalajara, when El Tri takes on the Republic of Korea.

On Tuesday, as El Tri arrived in the city, passion overflowed through chants, waving flags and thousands of fans showing their unconditional love for the Mexican side. It was a heartfelt welcome worthy of what the FIFA World Cup represents and a reminder of the special bond, trust and unity that exist between the fans and their national team.

Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre, along with players Raúl Rangel, César Huerta and Gilberto Mora, expressed their gratitude for the support and are confident that all that energy will carry over into Estadio Guadalajara, where they'll look to defeat the Taeguk Warriors, claim their second win of the tournament, move to the top of their group and take a major step toward the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

"Guadalajara is our home, just like the Azteca or La Corregidora. Any stadium where the national team plays is our home because it's our Mexico. We have the responsibility to go out there and try to win with the best we've got. Hopefully, we'll perform well and maintain consistency throughout the match. Hopefully, we'll get the win," said head coach Javier Aguirre.

For his part, Raúl Rangel highlighted the footballing qualities Mexico has shown in previous matches to compete with any opponent, while stressing that the support from the stands must be matched by complete focus on the pitch.

"Mexico has shown that we can compete against anyone, that we can be there fighting for big things. We can't let ourselves think we're favorites just because we're playing at home; matches have to be worked minute by minute," said the Mexican goalkeeper.

César Huerta spoke about the impact the fans' affection had on the squad and acknowledged the extra motivation it provides.

"The welcome we got from the people was incredible. We have amazing fans, you can really feel the positive energy, and we have to go out there and do things the right way so they feel well represented," said the Mexican forward.

Standing in Mexico's way will be a talented Korean side, something Gilberto Mora is fully aware of. Still, the message from the young midfielder is clear: Mexico wants all three points.

"We know Korea is a very good team, but we're going out there to win, to impose our style of play and do everything we can to take all three points," concluded the Mexican midfielder.
